TULSA, Okla. – With two more wins on Wednesday at the ITA All-American Championships, the Baylor men’s tennis doubles team of Marko Krickovic and Robert Verzaal clinched a spot in the event’s doubles main draw.

“Marko and Robert are two guys that just keep improving,” head coach Matt Knoll said. “They are playing hard every day and playing with a purpose. They are really communicating well and playing as a team. Those are things that make a difference in the close matches.”

The Baylor pair opened its day by taking care of Matt Kandath and John Morrissey of Stanford, 8-4.

“It was a tough match early,” Knoll said. “That is probably Stanford’s No. 1 doubles team, but in the end our guys executed well and played with a lot of passion.”

To claim one of only eight spots into the 32-team doubles main draw, Krickovic and Verzaal then proceeded to down North Carolina’s Brett Clark and William Parker, 8-6.

“In the second match, our guys broke right off the bat and then did a really wonderful job taking care of their serves to win the match,” Knoll said. “The guys were really excited, which they should be.”

On Thursday, the duo will play the 24th-ranked duo of Dan Cochrane and Andreas Mies from Auburn. Teammate Mate Zsiga, ranked No. 7, will start singles main draw action at 9:30 a.m. versus Vasko Mladenov of St. John’s.
