TULSA, Okla. – 13th-ranked Kyle McMorrow served up the first ball of his senior season today in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. McMorrow opened with a win over a top-50 opponent, but lost a tight three setter in the second round later this afternoon.

Seeded 11th in the 64-player field, McMorrow began play this morning against 47th-ranked Malte Stropp of Mississippi State. The two-time All-Pac-12 first teamer had little trouble posting a quick 6-3, 6-0 victory to move on.

In the second round, it would be a top-25 battle, as McMorrow went against 23rd-ranked Emilio Gomes of USC. Gomes won the first set before McMorrow ran away with the second set, 6-2. The third was the closest yet, with the players even at 5-5, but it was the Trojan who earned the late service break to earn the win, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

Along with McMorrow, Emmett Egger and Marton Bots started their season sin Tulsa this week, and all got one quality win under their belts. Next up for the Husky men’s tennis team will be a trip to St. Mary’s for the ITA Northwest Regionals from Oct. 19-23 when most of the squad will compete for the first time this fall.
