TULSA, OKLA. -- USC men's tennis' youth movement is proving powerful still out at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., with sophomore Roberto Quiroz serving up an upset of the No. 3 seed and junior Emilio Gomez taking down the No. 11 seed. USC's own high seed, No. 7 seeded junior Ray Sarmiento is in high gear with two strong wins out the gates to advance to the Round of 16.

Gomez, too, is locked in for the Round of 16 after a morning sweep of Minnesota's Leandro Toledo before his impressive three-set takedown of Washington's No. 11 seed Kyle McMorrow.

Quiroz' day, meanwhile, began with a bang as the sophomore chugged through Michigan's No. 3 seeded Evan King with a dominant 6-2,6-4 decision. That win earned Quiroz a bout with Georgia Tech's Juan Spir in the afternoon, and Quiroz again came to play. Quiroz battled back for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 comeback to leap into the Round of 16 alongside his teammates.

Gomez and Yannick Hanfmann -- who had retired from his singles opener in the third set -- were paired up for doubles against the No. 8-seeded team from Duke but opted for the walkover to bow out of the doubles draw. On the other half of the doubles draw, USC's No. 6 seeded Quiroz/Sarmiento faced a Nebraska pair and chugged through with an 8-3 win to take a spot in tomorrow's Round of 16.
