LAS VEGAS – Each of the five Boise State men’s tennis singles players won their first match at the Mountain Regional Championships, Thursday, with senior Andy Bettles and junior Nathan Sereke continuing win streaks into the afternoon.

Bettles, the No. 5 seed, cruised to a pair of victories in straight sets defeating Cesar Torres of Idaho (6-2, 6-1) and Rafael Davidian of Utah (6-0, 6-1).

Sereke earned a spot in final 16 with two wins as well, Thursday. Sereke won his first match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 before taking down Zeno Kastelic of Utah State in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Filipp Pogostkin defeated Nikki Rae of BYU in his first match, 6-1, 6-3 but fell in the second round to the No. 1 overall seed from Denver, Enej Bonin.

Scott Sears rallied back to win his first match in three sets, defeating Strahina Trecakov of New Mexico State, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. Sears’ run in the main draw would end there as he fell to Shaun Waters in three close sets.

Brian Foley, who won his opening match Wednesday, continued his run with a win over the No. 25 seed Marc Westgate but could not upset the No. 8 seed Victor Ouvrard of Nevada. Foley was defeated in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Bettles and Sereke teamed up to advance in the doubles competition with a dramatic 9-8 win over Hegelund/Iftikhar of Weber State. They will face the No. 9 seed in the round of 16, Friday. The team of Foley/Sears could not pull off the upset of the No. 1 seed from Denver, falling 8-3, and were relegated to the consolation bracket for the remainder of the competition.
