STANFORD, Calif. - Eight Golden Bears moved into the singles round of 32 and one California doubles team advanced as well on the first day of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Friday at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Sophomore Cecilia Estlander won in singles and also in doubles with sophomore partner Laura Posylkin, who defeated Santa Clara's Jessica Agra-Alex Zaniewski, 8-5, in the round of 64.

In the singles round of 64, Cal sophomore, fifth-ranked and second-seeded Zsofi Susanyi topped Sofia Hager, 6-0, 6-2; fourth-seeded junior Anett Schutting defeated Washington's Brianna Kemp, 6-1, 6-2; seventh-seeded senior Annie Goransson knocked off San Jose State's Julianna Bacelar, 6-1, 6-1; 10th-seeded senior Tayler Davis bested San Francisco's Milica Hadzi-Tanovic, 6-1, 6-0; 11th-seeded freshman Lynn Chi beat Tiffany Pham of UC Davis, 6-2, 6-3; 12th-seeded freshman Klara Fabikova upended Pacific's Iveta Masarova, 6-3, 6-4; junior Alice Duranteau moved past Washington State's Andjela Kankaras, 6-4, 6-3; and Estlander beat Layla Sanders of UC Davis, 6-1, 6-1;

Duranteau had advanced out of the round of 128, in which she defeated Gonzaga's Melanie Yates, 6-2, 6-2. Also in that round, Cal junior Kelly Chui fell to Cal Poly's Sophia Bott, 6-3, 6-3, and Posylkin lost to Washington's Natali Coronel, 6-4, 6-3.
