College Tennis News - More Trojan Wins At ITA Regionals

IRVINE, CALIF. - The USC men's tennis team rolled up another pile of wins in today's action at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Irvine, highlighted by a pair of victories apiece by two Trojan doubles duos to move into tomorrow's quarterfinals.

USC also has a set of four Trojans lined up for duty in the singles Round of 16 tomorrow after wins today. Jonny Wang continued his winning push by pulling out a three-setter to advance, while his seeded Trojan teammates -- No. 10 Eric Johnson, No. 4 Yannick Hanfmann and No. 3 Roberto Quiroz - tacked up straight-set wins to make it a crew of four Trojans in tomorrow's Round of 16.

USC's doubles teams had a busy day with two rounds to get through. Michael Grant and Wang were upended in their morning match, but USC's top-seeded Max de Vroome and Roberto Quiroz moved on to the Round of 32 on a walkover. De Vroome/Quiroz served up an 8-2 win in the next round, and are on to tomorrow's quarterfinals. Meanwhile, No. 5 seeds Yannick Hanfmann and Eric Johnson blanked their Round of 32 opponents and then drilled their Round of 16 foes with an 8-2 win to advance. Both Trojan pairs are up against Bruin teams tomorrow morning.
