WACO, Texas- The Baylor women's tennis team will have one singles player in the semifinal round and a doubles tandem in the quarterfinals after a successful third day of action at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Sophomore Ema Burgic opened singles play with a win over Texas Tech's Elizabeth Ullathorne in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-0. In her next match against No. 15 Natalie Beazant of Rice, Burgic earned another straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-2. Burgic will be competing in both doubles and singles play on Monday.

"Ema's been impressive," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "After the All-American, I really challenged her to raise her game even higher. She showed me today that she's got another gear, and that she was paying attention. I'm really proud of the effort she showed and the preparation she put in after the All-American."

Freshman Victoria Kisialeva closed out her first appearance in collegiate play after No.4 Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar defeated her, 7-5, 7-5 in a round of 16 match.

"I'm never big on moral victories, but Victoria took a step forward today," Scrivano said. "She played one of the best players in the country, and was in control of the match. That's exactly what we want. We're really excited about the way she's progressing, and if she can stay on this track, she's going to do some good things for us this year."

In doubles, the tandem of Jordaan Sanford and Burgic opened the day with an impressive victory over Rice's Katie Gater and Liat Zimmerman, 8-2. The duo advances to the quarterfinals and will play Texas' Elizabeth Begley and Lina Padegimaite.

"I felt like both of them raised their level of play today," Scrivano said. "They served extremely well, and they were very aggressive. Usually, when you do those two things in doubles, good things happen. I really liked the way they played today."

The quarterfinal round of doubles play will start on Monday at 9 a.m., followed by the semifinal round of singles play. All finals will be contested on Tuesday.
