IRVINE, CALIF. -- Another Trojan title is assured, but the particular pair holding the ITA Southwest Regional Championship trophy is still up in the air. Two USC doubles teams grabbed semifinal wins today in Irvine, Calif., to punch tickets to an all-Trojan championship match tomorrow (Oct. 23). Squaring off for both bragging rights and top honors will be the top-seeded USC team of Max de Vroome and Roberto Quiroz against No. 5 seeded Trojan pair Yannick Hanfmann and Eric Johnson, at 10 a.m.

The freshman-sophomore combo of de Vroome and Quiroz took down an eighth-seeded Pepperdine pair today in the doubles semifinals. At the other end of the bracket, an all-sophomore tandem of Hanfmann and Johnson counter-punched with an 8-5 win over a No. 7 seeded LMU team. For their efforts, the two Trojan teams will face off in the championship match.

The day was also full for two Trojans also still competing on the singles side of the game. In the semifinals today, Quiroz was upended in three sets, while Johnson also slipped up in his semi to bow out of the singles draw. That puts full focus on tomorrow's doubles title match for the two Trojan sophomores, who will become opponents in the final.
