STANFORD, Calif. - California junior Anett Schutting won her singles semifinal and the senior pair of Tayler Davis-Annie Goransson won its semi on Monday to advance to Tuesday's finals against Stanford opponents at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Schutting, ranked No. 22 nationally and seeded fourth at the regional, defeated 12th-seeded teammate Klara Fabikova - the second-ranked freshman in the nation - 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-0, in her match. Davis, seeded 10th and ranked No. 31, lost to Stanford's fifth-seeded Krista Hardebeck - the top-ranked freshman in the nation - 6-4, 6-3, in the other semi to set up the Schutting-Hardebeck final.
In doubles, sixth-seeded Davis and Goransson also had to get past some familiar opponents - second-seeded teammates Schutting and Zsofi Susanyi - 8-3, to earn their berth in the final against top-seeded Stacey Tan and Ellen Tsay. Cal freshmen Lynn Chi and Klara Fabikova - the fourth-seeded doubles team - fell to the Stanford duo, 8-4, in its semifinal.
Both finals are slated to start at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
