TAMPA  - The University of Miami women's tennis team starred in the second day of the 2012 Florida State Championship, also known as the Bedford Cup, held at USF's Varsity and P.E. courts this Friday through Sunday.

Florida native Kelsey Laurente continued her impressive run in the tournament as she out-paced Florida State's Leyla Erkin, 6-1, 6-0.

"Kelsey is proving that she has the potential of developing into a premier college tennis player," head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said.

Junior transfer Nicolle Stracar joined Laurente in the semifinals with a three-set victory over her teammate Lina Lileikite (2-6, 6-2, 16-14).

In the singles back draw, Brittany Dubins dispatched, UNF's Hollander, 6-3, 6-3.

The doubles teams of Dubins/Stracar and Lileikite/Laurente each advanced to the semifinals and will have the opportunity to face each other in the finals. Dubins and Stracar defeated the Means twins of Florida Gulf Coast, 8-3, while Lileikite and Laurente downed UCF's duo of Lorberg/Haraldson, 8-5.

"We need to keep up our intensity heading into tomorrow, Yaroshuk-Tews added. "Tomorrow will be about how tough we are physically.  A few players have played a lot of tennis. That is what a season is about. This is only the beginning."
