WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced the addition of California prep standout Kiah Generette (Signal Hill, Calif.) to his squad for the Spring 2013 term.

"Kiah has a really bright future," Scrivano said. "We are thrilled that she has decided to play her collegiate tennis at Baylor. Our main objective is to help prepare her for the WTA tour, if that's the path she chooses to pursue."

"Baylor is a well-know, reputable school with a tennis program that has had a great amount of success," Generette said. "The coaches and various staff are so passionate and caring with what they do, I know there is no way that I can fail at Baylor."

Generette is currently ranked as the No. 9 recruit in the country and the No. 3 player in the state of California by tennisrecruiting.net.

"Kiah has a solid foundation to build on," Scrivano said. "She is very athletic. You can see she has the potential to play at the next level. It is now just a matter of refining her game and adding another weapon or two."

In 2012, Generette has won a trio of events including the USTA National Open held in Lakewood, Calif. In that tournament, she defeated five other players ranked in the top 60 by tennisrecruiting.net. Generette also picked up wins at the 55th annual Long Beach Junior Tournament and the USTA 50K Women's Sacramento Qualifying Wild Card Tournament.

"Kiah has a unique tennis background, in that her father has coached her from day one," Scrivano said. "He has done a remarkable job to get her to this level. It is quite impressive the success that she has had at the junior level."

"My game is extremely powerful and because of this, I have a lot of weapons in my arsenal and I am able to hit winners from any part of the court," Generette said.

Generette chose Baylor over LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

"I'm looking forward to being in a new environment," Generette said. "Coming from California, I imagine it's going to be quite different, but I am excited for the new challenges and being able to grow as an individual, while being surrounded by great athletes with similar goals."
