TEMPE, Ariz. -- Freshman Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) defeated Desirae Krawczyk of Arizona State (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) to win the singles title at the ASU Thunderbird as the University of Michigan women's tennis team completed tournament action on Sunday (Nov. 11) at The Whiteman Tennis Center.
Yurovsky went 5-0 at the event, highlighted by a 7-5, 7-5 win over top-seeded and No. 31-ranked Tayler Davis of California. Yurovsky paired with sophomore Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) on the doubles front, with the Michigan pair going 2-1. The duo won its first two matches before falling on Sunday to wrap up weekend play.
Yurovsky is the second Wolverine to win the ASU Thunderbird, joining former All-American Denise Muresan (2008-11) as former winners. Muresan won the event as a junior in 2009.
Senior Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan), the tournament's No. 3 seed, picked up her first singles win of the season on Friday by knocking off Kelly Chui of California (6-3, 7-5). Michigan's lone senior then fell to runner-up Krawczyk in the quarterfinal round (6-2, 6-3).
Dodge rounded out Michigan's participants in the tournament, going 2-1 in singles action after falling in the second round.
The Wolverines will wrap up tournament action after the calendar flips to 2013, hosting the Michigan Invitational, Jan. 19-21, at the Varsity Tennis Center.
