FLUSHING, N.Y. - Northwestern senior Kate Turvy battled back from a third-set deficit to win her opening match at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday afternoon.

Turvy was able to outlast Armstrong Atlantic State's Barbora Krtickova to earn a determined 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory to earn a spot in the round of 16. She'll take on fifth-seeded Robin Anderson of UCLA who was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Rice's Natalie Beazant.

The match will be played on Friday with the winner facing either Brynn Boren of Tennessee or Danielle Collins of Florida later in the day in the quarterfinals.

After Turvy and Krtickova split the first two sets, Krtickova surged out to a decisive 4-1 lead in the decisive third set. However, Turvy rallied back to win four of the next five games. Krtickova then went up 6-5 and had three match points, but Turvy fought back again to force a tiebreaker that she was able to win.
