LOS ANGELES - Bruin sophomore Dennis Novikov was beaten in the quarterfinals of singles on Saturday, as play continued at the 56th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Novikov, the tournament's No. 2 seed, suffered a 6-4, 6-2 upset to USC's Michael Grant. The loss eliminates the Bruins' chances of a singles title at the event, as Novikov was the last remaining player in the draw.
Novikov and partner Karue Sell were still alive in doubles play and were scheduled to play a semifinal doubles match later in the day.
