Peter Kobelt is No. 2 Seed at ITA National Indoor Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Peter Kobelt, a member of the Ohio State men’s tennis team, is the No. 2 seed in the 32-player singles field of the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.  The prestigious event, hosted by Columbia University, will begin Thursday with the championship matches scheduled to conclude Sunday at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

The New Albany, Ohio native will face Jonas Lutjen of the University of Mississippi in the first round of the singles draw, with scheduled time of play to be updated later today. Phenomenal Fall
Owning an 11-1 record, Peter Kobelt has competed in two ITA sponsored events this fall. A native of New Albany, Ohio, Kobelt was the runner-up at the All-American Championships in October. In the fall’s season-opening tournament, Kobelt compiled a 5-1 record, suffering his only loss to No. 8 Alex Domijan of Virginia. Kobelt rebounded with a championship performance at the Midwest Regional two weeks later, winning six consecutive matches en route the title.
Kobelt owns a 4-1 record vs. five participants of the 32-member national indoors field. The redshirt junior has wins against Mac Styslinger of Virginia, Georgia’s and 10th-ranked KU Singh, Vlad Stefan of Michigan and UCLA’s Marcos Giron.

By winning the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional title in East Lansing, Mich., in October, Peter Kobelt automatically qualified for the National Indoor Intercollegiate championships. During his championship run at regionals, Kobelt won five of his six matches in straight sets.
