Senior Billy Federhofer (North Miami) and redshirt freshman Gordon Watson (Naples) teamed up to reach the finals of the doubles draw at the 2012 Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic. The duo won 8-3 over Princeton’s Zack McCourt and Dan Richardson on Saturday in the semifinals.
Federhofer and Watson are scheduled to take on Minnesota’s Mathieu Froment and Juan Pablo Ramirez in the final on Sunday.
In singles action, junior Mike Alford (Tampa) reached the semifinals before falling to Arizona’s Andrew Vidaller in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6. Alford defeated Princeton’s Zach McCourt in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-4. Watson also reached the semifinals, falling to top-seeded Finn Tearney of Pepperdine, 6-2, 6-2. Watson defeated Froment, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.
Federhofer lost to Tearney in the singles quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2, while redshirt freshman Thomas Proisy (Saint Nom La Breteche, France) lost to Vidaller, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
Junior Florent Diep (Paris, France), in action at the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships, lost a second round consolation match to Ohio State’s Peter Kobelt, 6-2, 6-2.
