Athens, Ga. – On the final day of play from the Bulldog Scramble at the University of Georgia, the Mississippi State men’s tennis squad capped their time in Athens with an impressive showing, reeling off five wins on Sunday.

Sunday’s play included one round of singles and doubles each, concluding with a “shootout” in singles play, involving the top player from each squad, to determine the champion.

In doubles play, the MSU duo of Zach White and Ethan Wilkinson ended their run at the Scramble with their third victory of the tournament, defeating the Kentucky duo of Michael Binder and Brett Johnson 8-5. The State duo comprised of freshmen Pedro Dumont and Stefan Vinti also enjoyed a successful Sunday, defeating Georgia’s Casey Kay and Will Oliver 8-6.

As play switched to singles, the Bulldogs looked to continue their dominating Sunday and did just that. White faced off with UGA’s Eric Diaz, defeating him in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Vinti battled East Tennessee State’s Roger Ordeig in a tough three-setter, coming out victorious 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Wilkinson, the lone senior for State in Athens this weekend, also fought in a tough three-set match, taking down Kentucky’s Binder 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

MSU’s Dumont dropped his singles match to Alabama’s Stuart Kenyon in a tough two-set loss 6-4, 6-2.

White was selected as the Bulldogs' top player to represent State in the tournament’s shootout, which involved four players from each team, with two rounds of play in a 10-point tiebreaker format.

The Bulldog junior from Ontario, Canada, faced off against Kentucky’s Maks Gold in the semifinals of the shootout, but fell in a tight match 12-10.

With the conclusion of the Bulldog Scramble, State finished play for the 2012 fall season. The Bulldogs will return to play when they open their spring slate Jan. 20, 203, against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Houston, Texas.
