URBANA, Ill. - Former Fighting Illini standouts Dennis Nevolo and Ruben Gonzales advanced to the doubles semifinals of the JSM Challenger on Thursday night at Atkins Tennis Center. The pair captured a 6-4, 7-6(2) win to edge fourth-seeded tandem Carsten Ball and Chris Guccione.

Meanwhile, top-seeded Michael Russell retired his singles quarterfinal match due to injury, sending seventh-seeded Jack Sock to the semifinal round. Sock played his way to the third round of the U.S. Open as a wild card earlier this year.

In doubles, unseeded Bradley Klahn and Denis Kudla upended top-seeded duo John Peers and John-Patrick Smith in a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 thriller, while the No. 2 seed, Devin Britton and Austin Krajicek, moved to the semifinals with a 7-6(2), 6-4 win over Edward Corrie and Vahid Mirzadeh.

Play resumes tomorrow at Noon CT. Nevolo and Gonzales will square off with Britton and Krajicek at 5 p.m.

The JSM Challenger marks the final event of the USTA Pro Circuit season. Action will be streamed live at procircuit.usta.com.
