ATHENS-----Tennis standout Mia King has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University of Georgia, Bulldog coach Jeff Wallace announced Wednesday.

King, a native of Hendersonville, N.C., is the daughter of Dr. Brent and Sheda King.  During her junior career, she has trained in Boca Raton, Fla., at the Rick Macci and Chris Evert Tennis Academies before being invited to become a part of the USTA National Training Center program at the age of 14. In her first season at the USTA Center, she earned Player of the Year honors. King was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally in the USTA 16s age division and then began competing more in International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments while traveling abroad. She was ranked in the top 20 of the USTA 18s, and in 2010, she received the USTA Sportsmanship Award while playing at the National Clay Court Championships in Virginia Beach. She is a “Blue Chip” recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net and ranked among their top 25 players nationally.

King is on track to complete her high school degree requirements this year and join the Bulldogs in January for the 2013 dual match season.

“No words can contain my excitement on becoming a Georgia Bulldog,” said King. “Everything at UGA is perfect to me. I feel it’s just where I belong. I love the energy that Coach Jeff Wallace and Drake Bernstein and the girls bring, and I can’t wait to be a part of the Dawg family!”

“Drake and I are thrilled that Mia will be coming to the University of Georgia, and she will be a great addition to the Bulldogs this season,” said Wallace.
