BERKELEY - Maegan Manasse - one of the top recruits in the nation - signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Amanda Augustus' California women's tennis team, the Golden Bear head coach announced. The Tennis Recruiting Network regards her as a five-star recruit, ranking the 17-year-old Manasse at No. 13 in its national college recruiting list and as the second-best recruit from the state of California.

Internationally, Manasse is ranked No. 631 by the ITF, with a high of 616 earlier this year.

The product of Redondo Beach, Calif., is the younger sister of Cal alumna Stephanie Manasse, who played for the Bears in 2005. Another sister - Rachel Manasse - finished her playing career at Long Beach State last season.

Most recently this November, Maegan Manasse won the doubles title at the USTA National Open, Girls 18, in Irvine, Calif., where she also reached the round of 16 in singles. One of her best sports moments was when she paired with current North Carolina freshman Ashley Dai to win the doubles crown at last summer's USTA National Clay Court Championships in Memphis, Tenn.

In 2011, Manasse won the CIF Southern Section Singles Championship, overcoming current Arizona State freshman Desirae Krawczyk in the final. The win over Krawczyk gave Manasse a 32-0 singles record for Mira Costa High School, which also named her its Female Athlete of the Year in 2011. Manasse amassed a 68-1 singles record in 2010.
