LOS ANGELES - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its first rankings of the 2013 season on Thursday and the UCLA women's tennis team checks in at No. 2 nationally. The UCLA men are ranked No. 3.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Women | Men
The Bruin women, who advanced to the NCAA Final in 2012 and finished the season with a 23-6 overall record, debut in the rankings behind the top-ranked Florida Gators, who claimed their second-straight NCAA title in 2012. Duke, USC and Stanford round out the top 5.
Individually, the women have four players ranked in the top 125, led by Robin Anderson at No. 6. She is followed by No. 38 Kaitlin Ray, No. 47 Kyle McPhillips and No. T-96 Pamela Montez. UCLA's three ranked doubles teams are: Anderson/Skylar Morton (No. 16), McPhillips/Morton (No. 25) and Anderson/Montez (No. 29).
WOMEN'S INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS: Singles | Doubles
The Bruins return five of six singles players who competed in last year's NCAA Final against Florida. UCLA also added Blue Chip recruits McPhillips and Catherine Harrison in the offseason.
UCLA opens up the 2013 season against San Diego on Jan. 26.
The UCLA men are ranked just behind No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 USC. Individually, Marcos Giron checks in at No. 12 in singles, followed by Dennis Mkrtchian at No. 41. The men do not have any doubles teams listed in the rankings.
