NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's and women's tennis teams grabbed top-50 ratings in the initial Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I Rankings released late Thursday.

The Sooner men's squad, coached by John Roddick, was ranked eighth and the OU women, coached by David Mullins, were listed No. 44.

Defending national champion Florida took the top spot for the women and 2012 runner-up Virginia led the men's rankings.

Additionally, four OU singles and three doubles teams were ranked by the association.

Junior Guillermo Alcorta was ranked 36th in the ITA Top 125 Men's Singles Rankings. Sophomore Dane Webb was 71st and senior Costin Paval 103rd.

OU's No. 1 doubles team of Webb and Paval ranked 12th. Freshman Axel Alvarez Llamas was listed for two doubles teams, pairing with junior Guillermo Alcorta for 32nd and Webb for 50th.

Hermon Brhane ranked 99th in women's singles.

Brhane and fellow junior Whitney Ritchie were listed 54th in women's doubles.

The ITA ratings are calculated from results of fall tournaments. The next ITA NCAA Tennis Team Rankings will be announced Jan. 22.

The Oklahoma women host Wichita State in their season opener at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion Saturday, Jan. 19, and the Sooner men face the Shockers in Norman on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
