DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's tennis program kicks off its spring season Friday as it travels to Honolulu, Hawaii for a series of early season practices followed by the Hawaii Invitational Jan. 9-10. The Blue Devils begin their spring after a successful fall season in which they claimed five individual titles and had seven student-athletes ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason rankings, the most of any team in the nation.

Junior Hanna Mar led the way for the Blue Devils in the fall, winning the singles draw at the Duke Fab4 Invitational (White Bracket) and the ITA Regional Championship. With the victory at the ITA Regional Championship, Mar earned a spot in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championship in Flushing, N.Y. where she made a trip to the quarterfinals after topping No. 89 Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV and No. 41 Katie Le of Santa Clara in the first two rounds.

In addition to the two titles from Mar, the Blue Devils also saw wins from senior Mary Clayton, junior Marianne Jodoin and sophomore Ester Goldfeld. Clayton and Jodoin both won their respective brackets at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, while Goldfeld and Mar teamed up to win the doubles crown at the ITA Regional Championship.

The Blue Devils travel to Hawaii ranked No. 3 in the country by the ITA, and currently own four of the top 70 singles players, headlined by Mar at No. 10. The Hawaii Invitational will give the Blue Devils an opportunity to compete individually one final time before the first dual match against William & Mary Jan. 19 in Durham, N.C.
