SEATTLE - Washington men's tennis got the spring season off to a great start, defeating Gonzaga, 7-0. Playing in front of the home fans at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, Washington thoroughly dominated its cross-state rival to move to 1-0 on the season.

The Dawgs started by winning the doubles point as the top two Huskies' teams easily won their matches. No. 1 doubles Max Manthou and Emmett Egger cruised to a 8-2 victory over Mijatovic/Guillermo of Gonzaga.

Moments later Viktor Farkas and Klye McMorrow finished on Smith/Varas at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. The Farkas/McMorrow victory clinched the doubles point and it was needed as Hudson Barnhart and Jeff Hawke fell 8-5 in their match with Nazal/Mosquera.

In singles, McMorrow gave UW a 2-0 lead, making short work of Alvaro Nazal, 6-1, 6-1. The senior was in fine form, finishing his match well before any of his teammates.

Clinching the match for Washington were Farkas and Hawke, who earned the third and fourth points within minutes of each other. Farkas defeated Oliver Jamin, 6-4, 6-2, while Hawke needed a first-set tiebreak to beat Vicente Varas at No. 6, 7-6, 6-3.

Also winning in straight sets were Egger, Manthou and Kamisar. Egger took care of Levin Guillermo, 7-5, 6-1, while Manthou defeated Hayden Smith, 6-2, 7-6. Finally, Kamisar wrapped up the seventh point and Husky sweep by defeating Vladimir Mijatovic, 6-2, 7-6.

Washington will now take the 1-0 record on the road to face No. 17 Tulsa and No. 23 Texas, both in Tulsa. The Dawgs face Tulsa on January 18 at 3 p.m., followed by Texas on January 19 at noon.
