WACO, Texas - To open the 2013 spring season, the 15th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team will welcome players from No. 69 Auburn, Houston, No. 59 Stephen F. Austin and UT Arlington as part of the HEB Invitational at the Hurd Tennis Center Friday through Sunday.

"This weekend will be a chance for our team to continue to improve and an opportunity to get some matches against someone outside of ourselves," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We've never hosted a tournament at this time, but we felt like it would be a good opportunity to get some of the rust off and get back in the flow of playing matches again."

The event will be a type of individual round-robin format in which the No. 1 players from each school will compete against their counterparts from the other schools. That format is carried out throughout the singles and doubles lineup. At the end of the weekend a singles and doubles champion will be crowned.

On each day of competition doubles action will begin at 10 a.m. with a round of singles play to follow at 1:30 p.m.

In the ITA's singles rankings, junior Ema Burgic was No. 16 is the lone ranked BU player, while her and partner Jordaan Sanford are listed at No. 27 in the doubles rankings. In his 11th-season at the helm of the program, Scrivano has a roster that features four juniors, two sophomores, one redshirt freshman and a freshman.

Following this weekend's individual tournament, the Lady Bears will open the 2013 dual-match season by hosting Sam Houston State on Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center.

At the end of each day of competition, BaylorBears.com will have a full recap and complete results. Follow @BaylorWTennis for updates throughout the event.
