ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men’s tennis team is headed to Palm Springs, Calif., to take part in the annual National Collegiate Tennis Classic at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Jan. 18-20, serving as the unofficial start to the 2013 spring season for the sixth-ranked Bulldogs.

Several of the top men’s and women’s collegiate programs from around the country are slated to compete in the 34th annual tournament, in addition to many highly-ranked individuals from schools not participating. Teams joining No. 6 Georgia in Palm Springs will be second-ranked and four-time defending national champions Southern California, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 13 Ole Miss, and No. 14 California.

For Georgia, making its first ever trip to the NCTC, eight players will compete including the team’s preseason top-20 trio of No. 8 KU Singh, No. 16 Hernus Pieters, and No. 19 Nathan Pasha, as well as the fifth-ranked doubles duo of Pieters and Ben Wagland. Also playing this weekend are junior Garrett Brasseaux, redshirt sophomore Eric Diaz, redshirt freshman Casey Kay, and freshman Marco Nunez.

The event features a 32-player draw, with matches set to begin at 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. The singles final is set for noon Sunday.

Following play at the NCTC, the Bulldogs open the dual match season at home Jan. 25-26 with the ITA Kickoff at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility. Georgia will host Vanderbilt, Minnesota, and VCU with a trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on the line.
