ATHENS---Sixth-ranked Georgia was picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division, according to the 2013 SEC Women’s Tennis Coaches preseason poll released by the league Friday.

Two-time NCAA defending champion Florida was projected to be the overall and Eastern Division winner while Texas A&M was forecasted to claim the Western Division. Last year, the Gators went 27-1 including 11-0 in the SEC. Georgia finished the 2012 season ranked sixth with a 24-5 record. Currently, the Bulldogs have four players ranked in the ITA Top 125 in singles and two tandems in the ITA Top 60 doubles rankings.

The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches based on a 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 count in each division. They also vote for the overall champion. The projected order of finish in the Eastern Division was Florida (98 points), Georgia (83), Vanderbilt (62), Tennessee (41), South Carolina (44), Kentucky (23) and Missouri (21). In the Western Division, the point tallies were Texas A&M (94), Alabama (88), Ole Miss (66), Arkansas (47), Auburn (46), LSU (34) and Mississippi State (17).

The Bulldogs are playing host to a round-robin event through the weekend that features players from No. 58 Memphis, No. 67 Kansas State and Troy. Admission is free.  The team match season begins next Sunday in Athens against No. 73 Columbia at 2 p.m. Georgia’s first SEC match will be March 2 at Tennessee.
