ATHENS, Ga.--All six Bulldogs won their singles matches against players from Troy University on Sunday at the Georgia Invitational.

"It's a great weekend because we got to compete against other people," said head coach Jeff Wallace. "We've been practicing hard so it's always fun to take it out on somebody else. I thought we had a great weekend. We learned a lot about our doubles and played some really good singles."

Eighth-ranked Lauren Herring claimed the first Georgia win as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Troy's Karoline Grymel. Herring went 3-0 in singles on the weekend, including a win over No. 15 Petra Niedermayerova (KSU) on Friday. Later, junior Kate Fuller, ranked 54th nationally, overwhelmed Troy's Hannah Toro, winning 6-0, 6-1. To end the day, junior Lilly Kimbell outlasted Candela Munoz Giron of Troy, 7-6 (11-9), 7-5 4-3 to get her third win of the weekend.

Georgia got solid performances from its freshman. Mia King won 6-1, 6-0 over the Trojan's Anja Cosovic, and freshman Silvia Garcia followed with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Troy's Lyubov Dorofeeva. Makenzie Craft, ranked 76th in the country, finished her weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Olivia Brooke Durden.

"[The freshmen] played really good tennis," continued Wallace. "There are certainly things that we can do to be better but I think we learned a lot about their games and what they need to work on in matches. They really did fantastic this weekend."

Throughout the weekend, Georgia went 17-3 in singles and 8-1 in doubles.

Georgia returns to action next Sunday when it plays host to Columbia at 2 p.m. It will be part of an ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Hopkins Indoor Courts with Oklahoma State and Georgia State the first scheduled match of the day at 9 a.m. On Monday, the winners play for a spot in the 16-team field for the ITA National Team Indoors (Feb. 8-11 in Charlottesville, Va.).
