Florida’s two doubles teams highlighted Sunday’s action at the 11th Annual Freeman Memorial Women’s Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus during the final day of play.
In non-draw action, Gators Brianna Morgan and Alexandra Cercone defeated Stanford’s Krista Hardebeck and Natalie Dillon, 8-1, and Danielle Collins and Olivia Janowicz paired for an 8-6 victory against North Carolina’s Tessa Lyons and Kate Vialle.
On the singles court, Janowicz topped UNC’s Lauren McHale, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, and Cercone collected a 6-2, 6-2 win against UNLV’s Lucia Batta. Collins came up short against UNC’s No. 28-ranked Zoe De Bruycker, 7-5, 6-0, and Morgan fell to Southern California’s Kaitlyn Christian, 6-4, 7-6.
This was the final individual event of the year until the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in May.
Florida, ranked No. 1 in the preseason ranking, launches its defense of its back-to-back national championships on Tue., January 29, when the Gators play host to South Florida at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex beginning at 3 p.m.
Admission to all regular-season home matches is free.
