LOS ANGELES - The second-ranked UCLA women's tennis team looked impressive in its season opener on Saturday afternoon, registering a 4-0 victory over San Diego during ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins (1-0) began the match by sweeping all three doubles contests. UCLA clinched the point with an 8-3 win at court No. 1, followed by an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 position. Although play should've been suspended at that point, Kyle McPhillips and Chanelle Van Nguyen were in the middle of match point at court No. 3. They were allowed to finish the point, converting it for an 8-6 victory over Cara Brown and Stephanie Hoffpauir to complete the Bruin sweep.

Because rain in the Los Angeles Area put the entire tournament behind schedule, UCLA's match with San Diego needed to run simultaneously with the Washington-South Florida match. As a result, each team had three courts to play six singles matches. UCLA and San Diego agreed to contest court Nos. 1, 3 and 5 first.

Sophomore Robin Anderson, the nation's sixth-ranked singles player, was spectacular at the No. 1 spot, downing Hoffpauir, 6-1, 6-0 to quickly give UCLA a 2-0 advantage in the match. It marked her 15th-straight victory of the season.

Playing in her first dual match, freshman Catherine Harrison played like a veteran, losing just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Marta Stojanovic at court No. 5 to make it 3-0. Harrison, who was slated to play No. 6 signles, was actually playing up a spot in the lineup due to Pamela Montez pulling out of her match at No. 2 singles.

Van Nguyen would get the clinching win for the Bruins at court No. 3, as she downed Shani Blecher, 6-2, 6-4 to give UCLA an insurmountable 4-0 lead.

At the time that play was suspended, McPhillips and USD's Laura Claus were tied 3-3 in the first set of their match at court No. 2, and Kaitlin Ray was leading Anna Depenau, 1-0 in the first set at court No. 4. Court No. 6 was the only match that didn't play a single point.

UCLA awaits the winner of Washington and South Florida. That match was suspended on Saturday evening with Washington leading 1-0. Washington and South Florida will resume their match at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, with the winner meeting UCLA sometime after 1:00 p.m.

Sunday's schedule is as follows:

9:00 a.m. - Washington vs. USF (Women's first round)
Not before 10:30 a.m. - South Florida vs. Cal Poly (Men's Consolation)
Not before 1:00 p.m. - UCLA vs. Washington/USF winner (Women's Final)
Not before 4:00 p.m. - San Diego vs. Washington/USF loser (Women's Consolation)
