CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The 10th-ranked University of Miami women's tennis team will look to remain undefeated this season on Saturday as they take on the University of North Florida at 2 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes (4-0) have faced three ranked opponents so far this season and won two of them 7-0. The Canes also won the Miami Spring Invite title. Miami has seen extremely strong performances from freshmen Kelsey Laurente (No. 51), Clementina Riobueno and Deborah Suarez. Their records are 6-1, 6-1 and 7-1, respectively.
Also leading the Canes are sophomore Lina Lileikite (No. 57) and freshman Stephanie Wagner (No. 92). Both are coming off of tough losses to players from Arizona State last Saturday and are looking to regain their momentum.
UNF is currently 1-0 this season, defeating Bethune-Cookman 7-0 last Saturday. Senior Lorena Aviles played an undefeated weekend for the Ospreys and won the first Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award of the 2013 season.
Several Ospreys have close ties to Miami. Senior Melanie Aguirre grew up in Miami, attending John A. Ferguson High School and head coach Audra Cohen had a storied tennis career as a Miami Hurricane. She won the university's first ever NCAA women's singles championship in 2007.
In last year's meeting between the two teams, also in Coral Gables, the Canes walked away with a 7-0 win.
