EUGENE, Ore.—The University of Oregon men’s tennis team faced off against the DePaul Blue Demons Saturday, winning 7-0 at the UO Student Tennis Center. The sweep is the Ducks’ fourth of the season as they advance to 5-0 on the dual match season.
“I’m extremely pleased with the way we played tonight, not only with the win but how we won as well,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “From top to bottom, singles and doubles, it was just an all around real solid effort.”
In singles, Robin Cambier handled Filip Dzanko 6-2, 6-2 in the top spot, while Jeff Mullen 6-7, 6-2(10-4) in the No. 2 spot, and Alex Rovello beat Mathias Hambach 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot. Daan Maasland took care of business in the No. 4 position as he topped Jan-Willem Feilzer 6-2, 6-2. Daniel Sardu defeated Adam Reinhart handily, winning 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Brent Chin rounded it out for the Ducks in the No. 6 spot, earning a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Paul John.
“I was really happy to see Jeff [Mullen] play at the level he played today. He played huge at big points in order to close out his match against a very tough player,” added Schyllander.
The Ducks faced their toughest doubles competition of the dual match season thus far, but they persevered and won all three matches. In the No.1 spot, Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen defeated Mathias Hambach and Filip Dzanko 8-6. Alex Rovello and Daan Maasland played a tough match against Sten Leusink and Jan-Willem Feilzer in the No. 2 spot, coming out on top 8-7(3). In the No. 3 spot, Daniel Sardu and Lova Randriamampandry topped Adam Reinhart and Paul John 8-5.
The Ducks return to the UO Student Tennis Center Sunday, Feb. 3rd to face Nevada at 12:30 p.m.
