DALLAS, Texas - The members of the Virginia men's tennis team continued their strong play in the qualifying draw of the Challenger of Dallas, a $100,000 event on the USTA Pro Circuit. Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga) and Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) all won for the second straight day on Sunday and are one win away from reaching the main draw.
Domijan downed the No. 4 seed, Tim Puetz, 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(9) in the second round of qualifying. Puetz, ranked No. 363 in the world, was a two-time singles All-American at Auburn in 2010 and 2011. He will play either Carsten Ball of Australia or American Mitchell Krueger in the final round on Monday.
Styslinger topped third-seeded Chase Buchanan 6-4, 6-1. Buchanan, ranked No. 362 in the world, was a three-time singles All-American (2010-12) at Ohio State. Styslinger will play former Texas standout Jean Andersen in the final round of qualifying.
Jenkins, who topped 2009 NCAA Singles Champion Devin Britton on Saturday, downed former Harvard standout Sasha Ermakov 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday. He plays the top seed in qualifying, world No. 309 Alex Bogdanovic of Great Britain, for a place in the main draw.
The event's main draw is headlined by former world top-10 James Blake, who is joined by current world top 100 players Go Soeda, Jesse Levine and Michael Russell.
