MALIBU, Calif. – After helping the #5-ranked Pepperdine men’s tennis team to a perfect 4-0 record during the month of January, David Sofaer and Mousheg Hovhannisyan were selected as the West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the month.

The Waves, 5-0 overall in 2013, recently moved from #7 to #5 in the ITA team rankings marking the first time since the 2006 season Pepperdine has been ranked in the top-five.

Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS) and Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental Academy) were the only Wave pair to go undefeated during the month of January. The duo picked up wins against teams from #22 Washington and #53 Denver.

In their final match of the month against #33 Florida State, Hovhannisyan and Sofaer were in a close battle with Dominic Cotrone and Michael Rinaldi when play was suspended.

This is the first time for both Sofaer and Hovhannisyan to pick up WCC Doubles Team of the Month honors.

Patrick Kawka of BYU was this January’s WCC Singles Player of the Month.

The Waves put their #5-ranking to the test next weekend, Feb. 15-18, when they face the nation’s top-16 teams at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash.
