NASHVILLE – Georgina Sellyn has been named the SEC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference Wednesday morning.

Sellyn was instrumental in helping the 21st-ranked Commodores record two wins over top-25 teams (No. 14 Northwestern and No. 22 Georgia Tech) last week. The Glasgow, Scotland, native went 2-0 in singles.

Against Northwestern, Sellyn’s win over Brittany Wowchuk clinched the victory for Vanderbilt. At Georgia Tech, Sellyn dropped the first set to Natasha Prokhnevska, but stormed back to win the second and third sets.

In her last three singles matches, she has been able to outlast her opponent as all three have gone three sets. Sellyn has won her last five singles matches to improve her overall record to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in dual play. She has spent time playing in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions this spring.

With Sellyn’s honors, this marks the second-straight week a Commodore has earned SEC weekly honors. Junior Lauren Mira was named SEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week last week.

Vanderbilt will take on No. 2 UCLA in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Friday, Feb. 8.
