PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Freshman Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team was named the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week on Wednesday (Feb. 6) after defeating a pair of top 30-ranked opponents. It is the first conference honor of her career.

Yurovsky helped No. 16 Michigan to a 1-1 week as the Wolverines knocked off No. 25 Tennessee (4-3) on Friday (Feb. 1) before falling at No. 8 North Carolina (5-2) on Sunday (Feb. 3).

Yurovsky recorded the first two dual match wins of her career, first knocking off No. 25 Kata Szekely in straight sets, 7-6 (6), 6-4, to help Michigan rally from a 1-0 deficit against Tennessee. In Michigan's loss at UNC, the freshman upended No. 28 Zoe De Bruycker at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (6). Yurovsky has won 10 consecutive singles matches.

She is the second Wolverine to earn the weekly accolade from the Big Ten this season, joining sophomore Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) as Wolverine winners.

Michigan is back in action this weekend (Feb. 8-11), participating in its fourth consecutive ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. First up for Michigan is fifth-seeded Cal on Friday (Feb. 8) at 6:30 p.m.
