EUGENE, Ore.—The University of Oregon men’s tennis team defeated Arkansas 6-1 Friday at the UO Student Tennis Center. The Ducks advance to 7-0, while Arkansas falls to 7-1. Arkansas is Oregon's first ranked opponent and only Southeastern Conference opponent of the season.

“The guys gave unbelievable effort from top to bottom tonight, singles and doubles,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “The crowd was amazing. I was so proud of the team and the effort they put in. We knew if we played with this type of energy, we’d be good.”

In doubles, UO’s No.1 team of Jeff Mullen and Robin Cambier defeated Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott 8-5. Aaron Clissold and Daniel Sardu filled the No. 2 spot for the Ducks and topped Hall Fess and Santiago Munoz 8-5. Daan Maasland and Alex Rovello’s match against Gregoire Lehmann and Mike Ward was cut short at 6-6 as Oregon already won the doubles point.

Mullen led Oregon in the top singles slot, playing a fantastic match and beating Lehmann 6-2, 7-6. Cambier won his match against Jeske 6-4, 7-6(2) after an intense second set, while Maasland handled Santiago Munoz 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. Alex Rovello defeated Mike Ward 6-2, 6-4 for another UO point in the fourth spot, while Brent Chin fell in the sixth spot 6-1, 3-6, 2-6.

“We have a very challenging match on Sunday, so we don’t want to get too confident or too high. We’re going to come back to work on Sunday,” added Schyllander.

The Ducks return to the UO Student Tennis Center on Sunday to face the New Mexico Lobos at 11 a.m.
