EUGENE, Ore.—The University of Oregon men’s tennis team defeated the New Mexico Lobos 5-2 Sunday at the UO Student Tennis Center. The Ducks are now 8-0 on the season, while the Lobos drop to 4-5. The Lobos were the second straight ranked opponent the Ducks took down.

“This was a great weekend for us,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “These guys are showing a lot of belief and I’m very proud of the whole group. There is no quit in these guys and they showed up with a lunchpail and hard hat this weekend and just got it done.”

Oregon continued its doubles dominance as they won all three matches against the Lobos, bringing the season total to 23-0. Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen got things going for Oregon as they defeated Conor Berg and Andrew Van Der Vyver 8-5. Aaron Clissold and Daniel Sardu came out on top 9-8(5) in a tough match against Riaan du Toit and James Hignett. Daan Maasland and Alex Rovello took down Jadon Phillips and Simon Hegelund 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.

“For us to go out and sweep the doubles again in the way that we did it just shows the mindset that this group has of really trying to take it to their opponents. In big moments in each doubles match, the guys stepped up and played really aggressive,” added Schyllander.

In singles, Cambier won in the No. 1 spot against Samir Iftikhar 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, while Mullen took down Berg 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot and Maasland handled business in the No. 3 spot, defeating Mitch McDaniels 6-2, 6-2. Rovello dropped a tough match to Jadon Phillips 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in the fourth spot, and Brent Chin lost to Riaan Du Toit 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth spot. Daniel Sardu finished strong for Oregon as he beat James Hignett 7-6, 6-3 in the sixth spot. Maasland and Cambier extended their undefeated streaks as they are now 8-0 and 7-0 this season, respectively.

Oregon hits the road for the first time this season, as they take on Washington and Nevada-Las Vegas next in Seattle, Wash on Friday, Feb. 22nd and Saturday, Feb. 23rd.
