College Tennis News - Cal Tennis Launches Campaign to Upgrade Hellman

Give to the Cal Tennis to Support the Bears’ Nationally Prominent Programs

BERKELEY – California has launched a two-year, $2.5 million campaign to upgrade the Hellman Tennis Complex, home to the Cal men’s and women’s tennis programs. As the 30th anniversary of the Hellman Tennis Complex approaches, the $2.5 million Cal Tennis Campaign will provide much-needed upgrades to the facility as well as annual support to Cal student-athletes.

Two million dollars will be devoted to enhancing Hellman, while $500,000 will support the Cal Tennis annual fund, aiding student-athlete scholarships and support services. The campaign will provide much needed upgrades including the following:

* New Elevated Chairback Seats for all six courts
* New Team Meeting/Academic Room
* New Separate Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms (with showers)
* New Storage Area (below new seating)
* New Public Restrooms

“This will help our players and fans enjoy their Cal tennis experience on a much higher level,” Cal men’s head coach Peter Wright said. “The alumni support so far has been incredible. This project is the foundation for a healthy and vibrant tennis program in the future.”

Kent and Pat Newmark – long-time friends to the programs – have made the Cal Tennis Campaign possible through a lead gift of $750,000. Alumni, parents, friends and fans of the Cal Tennis programs are encouraged to join them in support of this campaign.

With a gift of $5,000 or more, a donor can choose to have his/her donation recognized with a naming opportunity:

    $125,000 or more: Team/Academic Room
    $100,000: Player Scholarship ($25,000/year for 4-year minimum)
    $75,000 or more: Tennis Court (several already named)
    $40,000 or more: Women’s Locker Room (men’s already named)
    $5,000 or more: Player Locker in men’s or women’s Locker Room
    $5,000 or more: Seat naming
