College Tennis News - Aggies Look to Rebound Against No. 17 Tulsa

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 14 men's tennis team welcomes No. 17 Tulsa to the George P. Mitchell Center on Friday at 5 p.m. Texas A&M (7-3) looks to rebound after dropping three straight matches against top-15 opponents at the ITA Indoor Championships this past weekend.

"We are very happy to be back playing at home this weekend at the friendly confines of the Mitchell Tennis Center," men's tennis head coach Steve Denton said. "Tulsa is a very experienced team that made the Sweet Sixteen last year with five of six starters back from that team. I expect them to be a huge challenge for us tomorrow as we attempt to get back on a roll before the SEC schedule starts next weekend. I am confident we will bounce back from the ITA Championships in Seattle with a lot of determination and energy."

The Aggies are led by No. 67 Shane Vinsant, No. 124 Harry Adams and sophomore Jeremy Efferding, who are tied for the team lead in singles with six wins apiece. No. 100 Jackson Withrow and Jordan Szabo are close behind with five wins apiece. Junior Ore (4-4) and Behzad Minavi (3-0) round out the singles squad for Texas A&M.

In doubles, the 40th-ranked duo of Ore and Withrow leads the team in doubles play with an 8-1 record. The No. 7 tandem of Adams and Vinsant, with a 5-2 record, and the pair of Efferding and Szabo, holding a 5-3 record, complete the projected doubles lineup for the Aggies.

The Golden Hurricanes are riding a two-match winning streak into the contest. Tulsa (5-4) enters the match with wins against No. 14 Baylor, No. 16 Illinois, No. 37 Minnesota, No. 51 Arkansas and No. 68 TCU. Last season the Golden Hurricanes advanced to the round of 16 before falling to Pepperdine. Tulsa features two ranked singles players in No. 54 Japie De Klerk and No. 101 Clifford Marsland. On the doubles side, Alejandro Espejo and Marsland lead the squad with a 6-2 record.

Texas A&M and Tulsa last met on the courts last season in Tulsa. The Aggies were unable to weather the storm as the Golden Hurricanes took the match, 6-1.
