SAN DIEGO – After a week of rest, the Boise State men’s tennis team will continue its span away from home when it travels to face No. 26 San Diego and No. 70 San Diego State this weekend. Boise State will first take on San Diego, Friday at 1:30 p.m. PT before a quick turnaround against San Diego State, Saturday at noon.

In the Rankings - The Broncos dropped one spot in this week’s Campbell’s/ITA National Team Rankings and are now 39th in the country, the highest of any Mountain West team.
Junior Andy Bettles is currently ranked the 27th-best singles player in the nation after a 7-3 fall season and a 5-3 record so far this spring. Bettles has played all eight matches in this spring at the No. 1 spot, seven of which were against ranked opponents.
Scouting No. 26 San Diego – The Toreros are 4-2 this season and are unbeaten (3-0) when playing on their home court. The team is led by junior Clarke Spinosa who is No. 88 in the country despite playing all five matches at the No. 3 position. Uros Petronijevoc joined Spinosa in the rankings last week by jumping to No. 107. Petronijevoc is 4-2 this spring playing primarily on court five.
Scouting No. 70 San Diego State – The Aztecs enter the weekend with a 6-3 record against a tough early-season schedule. The team is 1-3 against ranked opponents and is coming off a pair of close matches last weekend against Pacific and Hawai’i. Derek Siddiqui has played eight of nine matches at the top spot for the Aztecs and is ranked 104th in the country in singles play. Siddiqui and Andranik Khachatryan have the team’s best doubles record at 5-1 as the No. 2 singles team, setting up a good matchup with Garrett Patton and Scott Sears who are 4-1 this season.
Bettles Named Player of the Week: Junior Andy Bettles was named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, Feb. 13, after going a combined 3-1 on the against Minnesota and Louisville. Bettles defeated two ranked opponents in singles while pairing with Nathan Sereke to upset the 24th-ranked doubles team of Froment/Bonin.
Early Schedule: Boise State faces a grueling stretch in the early going of the 2013 season. The Broncos have already faced No. 14 Cal, No. 35 Santa Clara twice and No. 23 Washington, No. 44 Minnesota and No. 35 Louisville. In total the Broncos will have faced eight ranked opponents in a row, all on the road.
No Place Like Home – Boise State owns a 21-match home win streak after going a perfect 19-0 at home last season. The last Bronco loss in Boise came during the WAC Championships in 2011 in a 4-3 defeat against Fresno State.
About the Broncos – Boise State enters the season as defending Mountain West Champions, going a perfect 7-0 against conference opponents in 2012. This year’s team is led by a pair of juniors, Andy Bettles and Nathan Sereke who will man the top two spots for Boise State while seniors Filipp Pogostkin and Scott Sears will give the Broncos strength in the middle of the lineup. Three new faces to the roster will fight to fill out the order as Patton welcomes freshmen Brian Foley, Toby Mitchell and Thomas Tenreiro to the squad.
