The No. 11 Florida men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the 2013 ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship with a 4-1 loss to host Washington in Seattle on Sunday night. The Gators fall to 6-3 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 7-4.
 
Florida came up just short in doubles, splitting the first two matches before Washington’s Viktor Farkas and Jeff Hawke defeated UF’s duo of Luke Johnson and Bob van Overbeek, 8-6, on court three.
 
The Gators’ took the first doubles match, as Mike Alford and Florent Diep beat Marton Bots and Max Manthou, 8-2, at the No. 2 position. At the top spot, the Huskies’ Kyle McMorrow and Emmett Egger took down Florida’s Billy Federhofer and Gordon Watson, 8-4.
 
In singles, Washington extended its lead with a win from Bots at No. 2 singles over Diep, 6-4, 6-2. Florida got on the board with a win from Watson on court three over Egger, 6-2, 6-4. The Huskies secured another point on court one, as 18th-ranked McMorrow defeated van Overbeek, 6-2, 7-6 (3), pulling within one point of securing the team victory.
 
Just as it looked like the Gators would get another point from Federhofer on court five, Washington’s Manthou closed out Alford on court four to clinch the match. After dropping the first set to Alford, Manthou rallied to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Florida returns home to face No. 18 Baylor next Saturday, February 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
