IRVING, Texas - Big 12 Conference women's tennis coaches unanimously voted Texas as their preseason pick to win the 2013 Big 12 Conference regular season crown, the league announced Monday.
Texas received the maximum nine first-place votes and took top honors in the league's preseason coaches' poll with 81 points. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team in the poll.
Baylor took the second slot with 70 points, while Texas Tech was voted third with 65 points. TCU and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five.
Currently ranked No. 14 in the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) women's tennis team poll, Texas returns senior two-time All-American Aeriel Ellis and Big 12 Conference individual champions Lina Padegimaite (pah-day-gee-MY-tay) and Elizabeth Begley. Ellis ranks 29th in the ITA women's singles rankings.
UT also features first-semester freshman Breaunna Addison, who holds the No. 39 slot in the latest ITA women's singles rankings.
Texas hosts Rice on Saturday, March 2 at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. First serve is set for noon Central with a live telecast on Longhorn Network.
