Women's Tennis Breaks into the Top Five for the First Time in Program History

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The women's tennis team moved up to No. 5 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, marking the highest ranking in program history. The Crimson Tide's previous best was seventh, which was achieved last season.

North Carolina continues its reign at No. 1 and is followed by Duke, UCLA, and Florida. Coming in at No. 6 is Texas A&M while Georgia stands at No. 7. Rounding out the top 10 is Northwestern, California and Nebraska.

The Tide also has four representatives in the singles rankings in junior Mary Anne Macfarlane (No. 20), senior Alexa Guarachi (No. 36), and freshmen Maya Jansen (No. 77) and Natalia Maynetto (No. 106). In addition, Guarachi and Macfarlane come in at No. 4 in the nation in doubles.

Alabama opens the Southeastern Conference portion of its schedule this week when it heads to Oxford to take on Mississippi on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
