WACO, Texas - The 24th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team will continue a five-match road swing by traveling to face sixth-ranked Texas A&M on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in College Station, Texas.
"Texas A&M is one of our oldest, long-standing rivals," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We're a young team that's a work in progress. We're going to go over there and just try to get better. We're at the stage right now where every time we're on the court, we've got to learn something and get better from it. What we're battling has to do with us, and not who we're playing against."
Baylor (4-7) enters the match, after 4-1 loss against eighth-ranked Northwestern on Sunday. The team is now 1-7 against top-25 ranked opponents this season. No. 12 Ema Burgic notched the only point for BU against Northwestern, and now holds an 8-3 singles mark. Burgic is also paired alongside Victoria Kisialeva as the most successful doubles tandem (4-1) for the Lady Bears in the No. 1 position, earning a No. 24 spot in the ITA Rankings.
Texas A&M (5-1) will play the Lady Bears after earning a 4-3 win over 13th-ranked Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. TAMU's lineup boasts three ranked singles players, including No. 6 Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, No. 67 Nazari Urbina, and No. 83 Cristina Stancu. Stancu is also paired with Stefania Hristov at No. 11 in the doubles rankings. Overall, the Aggies are 17-8 in singles and an even 9-9 in doubles play.
The last time these two teams met, Texas A&M defeated Baylor, 4-3, on April 28, 2012 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. In the all-time series, Baylor has a narrow 20-19 advantage.
