NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team looks for its third straight victory Thursday at 5 p.m. when Western Michigan travels to the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The No. 18 Irish (7-3) earned a pair of hard fought decisions last weekend, sparked by a 4-2 win over then No. 19 Baylor Saturday inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion. In a match that was originally scheduled for Friday but was changed to accommodate Baylor’s travel arrangements, Notre Dame overcame a 2-1 deficit during the singles portion, rallying for three straight wins.

No. 42 Britney Sanders earned a crucial three-set win at the number one singles court over then No. 13 Ema Burgic, claiming an 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory to tie the match at 2-all. A 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles by Chrissie McGaffigan and a 6-2, 6-4 straight set win by Jennifer Kellner at the No. 2 court clinched the match for Notre Dame.

The Irish won the doubles point for the second consecutive match Sunday at No. 60 Indiana, but were one point from defeat after the Hoosiers swept the fourth through sixth singles courts to open a 3-1 lead. Quinn Gleason downed Alecia Kauss at No. 3 (7-5, 1-6, 6-2), and Kellner picked up a three-set win over Katie Klyczek (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) to square the team score at 3-3. Sanders battled back from a 6-7 (3-7) first set at the No. 1 court to defeat Leslie Hureau 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-4 and complete the Notre Dame comeback.

Western Michigan (6-5) has never defeated Notre Dame during the Jay Louderback era. The Irish head coach is a perfect 9-0 in his career against the Broncos. Notre Dame is 13-4 all-time in the series between the teams, and has not lost since Feb. 21, 1987 (a 6-3 Western Michigan win).
