STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the third time this season, a member of the No. 10 Mississippi State men's tennis squad has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, as freshman Romain Bogaerts earned the honor for the second time on Wednesday.

Currently ranked 23rd nationally, the Huppaye, Belgium, native holds a record of 22-6 for the 2012-13 season, 9-2 in dual match play.

Bogaerts has held the top position in the Bulldogs' lineup for a majority of the season, with seven of his nine dual match victories coming at the No. 1 spot. Also, seven of his nine victories have also come in straight sets.

The freshman capped off a successful weekend with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against No. 98 Ben Davis, clinching MSU's 4-3 victory against No. 47 Middle Tennessee. The win against Davis also improved his record against ranked opponents to 5-3 for his young career and 3-1 in the dual match season.

Not just a major player in singles, the young Bulldog has teamed up with fellow freshman Pedro Dumont in doubles play, currently holding a 6-1 record. With a win against Samford's Fares Kilani and Alex Sajonz last Saturday, the duo's 6-0 start to the season tied the best start by an MSU doubles team since 2006, when Antonio Lastre and Daniel Sanchez started 6-0 as well.

Bogaerts and the rest of the Bulldogs will return to action this Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. CT as they begin a two-match road swing in the state of Alabama to kick off the SEC season. MSU will travel to No. 32 Auburn on Friday and close out the road trip against No. 31 Alabama on Sunday, March 3, at 12 p.m.
