Fifth-Ranked Tide Women's Tennis Opens SEC Play on the Road This Weekend

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The fifth-ranked women's tennis team (8-1) will travel to Oxford and Starkville, Miss., this weekend to take on the Mississippi Rebels and the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the first Southeastern Conference matches of the season. Friday's match in Oxford is slated to start at 3 p.m. CT while Sunday's match in Starkville is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
 
The Crimson Tide is coming off an exciting 4-3 victory over the then 21st-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. Alabama has won its last four matches in a row, three of which have come against top-25 opponents.
 
In last year's matchups, the Tide defeated both the Bulldogs and Rebels by scores of 6-1 and 5-2, respectively. Overall, Alabama leads the series with Mississippi State, 32-11, but trails in the series to Mississippi, 14-29.
 
The Tide currently has four players ranked nationally in singles, with junior Mary Anne Macfarlane at No. 20, senior Alexa Guarachi at No. 36, freshman Maya Jansen at No. 77, and freshman Natalia Maynetto at No. 106. Each player is also ranked in the top ten regionally. Mississippi has one player currently ranked nationally in singles in junior Caroline Rohde-Moe, who comes in at No. 39, and three players ranked regionally.
