BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State men's tennis team picked up two wins in a doubleheader against Utah and Gonzaga, Saturday. The Broncos defeated the Utes 6-1 at the Appleton Tennis Center before sweeping the Bulldogs, 7-0 at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
The doubles play shined for the Broncos once again as the team went 6-0 when partnering up. It is the fourth and fifth times Boise State has swept the doubles point this season. The team of Patton/Sears has been unstoppable as of late and extended its win streak to eight matches today.
Andy Bettles, Nathan Sereke and Garrett Patton led the way for the Broncos (5-7, 1-1 MW) with two singles wins each.
Bettles and Sereke played at the No.1 and No. 2 spots in both matches, respectively. The wins for Bettles brings him to 8-4 this spring, all at the top spot. The two wins for Sereke were his first of the spring.
Patton played at the No. 6 spot in the match against Utah where he defeated Ben Tasevac 6-2, 6-4. In the afternoon he moved up to court four to win 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Filipp Pogostkin and Thomas Tenreiro tacked on wins in the morning match against Utah for the Broncos while newcomers Toby Mitchell and Brian Foley go wins at the bottom two spots in the match against Gonzaga.
Boise State has now won 23-consecutive home matches, a streak that began at the start of last season.
The Bronco home stand is a short one as the team returns to the road for matches at San Francisco, Saturday and Stanford, Sunday.
