Bettles Earns Second Player of the Week Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State junior Andy Bettles has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced, Wednesday. It marks the second weekly honor for Bettles this season and the third of his career.
 
Bettles, from Somerset, England, went 4-0 overall last week playing at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions, as Boise State defeated San Francisco 4-3 on March 9 and lost to No. 49 Stanford 4-3 on March 10. Bettles defeated San Francisco's Thai Tu in a three-set match, 7-6 (6), 6-7 (7), 10-7. A day later he turned back Stanford's John Morrisey (ranked No. 45) in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Bettles and doubles partner Nathan Sereke handled San Francisco's Tu and Will Schumacher, 8-6, and Stanford's Morrisey and Denis Lin, 9-7. The junior, ranked No. 25 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this season, is 9-1 in his last 10 singles matches.
 
Bettles joins San Diego State's Thorsten Bertsch as the only players to receive the award twice this season.
 
Boise State will next compete in the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala., Friday, March 15 - Sunday, March 17.
